Tiruchi Corporation has warned cattle owners of legal action if they let their cattle to roam freely on public roads, causing traffic disruptions.
According to a press release, the Corporation has been receiving frequent complaints from residents and road users about stray cattle blocking roads, hindering traffic, and causing accidents in several parts of the city. Such violations will attract not only penalties but also cases against negligent cattle owners through the police department.
Presently the Corporation has engaged private agencies to impound stray cattle. The seized animals are sheltered at the Corporation’s facility on East Boulevard Road and returned to owners after collecting a fine of ₹2,500 per animal. If the animals remain unclaimed for more than a week, they are auctioned.
From January 2023 to November 2025, a total of 1,368 cattle have been seized, and fines have been imposed on their owners; 68 unclaimed animals have been auctioned.
The Corporation has urged the public to report stray cattle sightings to help maintain smooth traffic movement and ensure public safety.
