Nintendo and Sony have unveiled the first images from the live-action Legend of Zelda movie, offering fans their long-awaited glimpse of Link and Princess Zelda brought to life. The photos debuted Monday by Nintendo, marking the official start of production on the big-screen adaptation of the iconic videogame series.

The images spotlight actors Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth in full Hylian form. Bragason appears as a bow-wielding Princess Zelda, while Ainsworth dons Link’s classic green tunic, complete with pointed ears. The pair stand in a sweeping green field that hints at the film’s vision of Hyrule, grounding the fantasy world in the dramatic New Zealand landscapes where the project is currently shooting.

Wes Ball, known for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and The Maze Runner, directs the film. The Legend of Zelda is set to arrive in theatres on May 7, 2027. Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, who is producing, confirmed the casting earlier this year, writing, “I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.”

Bragason, a rising English actor, has appeared in BBC One’s Three Girls, The Jetty, and Disney+’s Renegade Nell, and recently starred in the vampire comedy The Radleys. Ainsworth voiced Pinocchio in Robert Zemeckis’ Pinocchio and is known for roles in The Haunting of Bly Manor, Son of a Critch and The Sandman.

Plot details remain tightly guarded, and it’s still unclear whether the film will adapt a specific entry from the long-running Legend of Zelda series or forge an original storyline.
