The Drugs Control Administration has suspended the licence of and sealed M/s. Vijayasri Blood Centre, a unit of Vijayasri Memorial Charitable Trust, at Maharanipeta, following surprise inspections ordered by Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav that unravelled violations of safety norms.

The blood bank was found operating with unqualified staff performing critical procedures without medical officers, conducting specialised blood collection without proper equipment, lacking essential quality control systems, and conducting blood donation camps without documentation.

In view of these serious lapses, Director and State Licensing Authority, Drugs Control Administration, Andhra Pradesh, M. Pandu Ranga Prasad issued the ‘stop forthwith’ orders, suspending all activities of the facility until further orders.

Drugs Inspector M. Srinivas Rao, while implementing the order, stated that blood and blood components are life-saving products, and strict compliance with quality is essential to ensure patients’ safety and prevent life-threatening transfusion risks.

He warned that stringent action would be taken against licensees conducting blood bank operations and donation camps in the absence of qualified medical officers and staff.
