The Kerala government has issued an order declaring dry day observance from 6 p.m. on December 7 till the conclusion of the local body polls on December 9 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam districts.

In the case of Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod that go to the polls in the second phase, dry days will be observed from 6 p.m. on December 9 till the conclusion of the poll on December 11.

This will include the date of repoll, if any.

It will be a dry day for all liquor shops across the State on December 13 when the polled votes are counted.

On the dry days, no spirit, fermented or intoxicating liquors or other substances of a like nature should be sold, given, or distributed in a hotel, eating house, tavern, shop or any other public or private place within a polling area. All liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs and other establishments selling/serving liquor will remain closed. They are not permitted to serve liquor on these days.

Steps should also be taken to prohibit clandestine movement of liquor from adjoining areas, even if there are no restrictions in effect in those areas, says the order.

Storage of liquor by individuals is also prohibited.
