The local communities led by the Revolutionary Communist Party of India (RCPI), Andhra Pradesh, on Friday (November 07, 2025) demanded allocation of 1,245.28 acres land under the Salt Commission to the local salt farmers and adjacent villages in Kakinada district.

Earlier this year, the Kakinada district authorities had sought 1,245.28 acres under the Salt Commission to be transferred to the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB) for industrial purposes. The proposal was also approved by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of the Ministry of Commerce and Trade.  According to former Kakinada District Joint Collector Rahul Meena, the proposed Salt Commission’s land falls in the mandals of Kakinada City, Karapa, and Tallarevu.

On Thursday, RCPI Andhra Pradesh State secretary Rambala Sateesh and local communities staged a protest in front of the Superintendent of the Salt Commission in Kakinada City, seeking withdrawal of the proposal to transfer the land to APMB.

In an official release, Mr. Rambala Sateesh stated, “The Salt Commission’s land proposed to be transferred to the APMB should be allocated to the farmers who engage in salt cultivation, and local communities of the adjacent villages”.

The land which the State government allotted for the Kakinada Special Economic Zone (KSEZ) and A.P. Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) remains idle without any industrial activity along the Kakinada coast. The State government could allot those lands instead of transferring Salt Commission’s land,” Mr. Rambala Sateeesh said. Recently, the Kakinada revenue officials completed assessment of the value of the proposed land.
