Lorry driver who extorted money in the guise of Food Safety Officer arrested

A lorry driver from Madurai, who impersonated Food Safety Officer and threatened a sweets stall owner in Aruppukottai to part with ₹7,025, on charges of selling substandard sweets, was arrested.

A statement said that Virudhunagar District Food Safety Designated Officer, S. Mariappan received a complaint from the sweet stall owner about how he was cheated by the stranger in the name of food safety officer.

The stranger had bought sweets from the stall and then introduced himself as Food Safety Officer.

He alleged that the sweet which he had purchased was of poor quality and forced him to pay the penalty through mobile payment app.

Later, the lorry driver from Kalligudi was arrested.
