Madurai Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Om Prakash Meena inspected the ₹90.20 crore worth ongoing development works at the Rameswaram Railway Station here on Sunday.

Speaking to media persons, he said, there were currently no plans to start a new railway service between Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi.

Adding that the development and construction works at the railway station was progressing rapidly, Mr. Meena said, “Official information regarding the launch of theVande Bharat train service to Rameswaram and the attendance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the inauguration will be announced once we receive the information.”

He noted that the technical snag in the vertical lift span at the centre of the new Pamban rail bridge, which had led to reduced train speeds, has been rectified and trains were now being operated on the bridge at a speed of 50 km per hour.

“A tender has been called for the dismantling of the old vertical lift bridge. The work to remove the old rail bridge will begin once the tender is finalised,” he added.
