The Seshadripuram police on Sunday arrested a 31-year-old labourer for allegedly stabbing a woman to death at a construction site in Seshadripuram on Saturday over a trivial row.

The accused, Nagappa Poojari, who lived near Electronics City and worked as a daily-wage labourer, was reportedly enraged after the victim, Sharanamma, 23, refused to reveal the whereabouts of her married sister, with whom he is suspected to have had a relationship.

According to police, an intoxicated Poojari went to the under-construction building where Sharanamma lived with her husband, took a large kitchen knife and stabbed her in the chest repeatedly, killing her on the spot.

Sharanamma and her husband, a security guard, had been staying at the site for the past year. The couple hailed from Indi in Vijayapura district.

The accused had a relationship with the deceased’s sister who broke up with him and came to her sister’s house seeking help.

The deceased sent her to a relative’s house and tried to protect her from the accused who came in search of her.

The police registered a case of murder and tracked down Poojari soon after the incident. He has been taken into custody. Further investigations are on.
