Man arrested for stealing valuables worth ₹48.50 lakh from train

Ongole Government Railway Police (GRP) officials on Thursday arrested a 45-year-old man, who reportedly stole nearly ₹48.50 lakh worth gold ornaments, imported watches and other valuables from passengers in Charminar Express AC coach on the early hours of November 13. The GRP officials recovered the stolen items from him.

K. Kodandarami Reddy, a 72-year-old passenger from Bengaluru in Karnataka, filed a complaint regarding the theft on November 24. Following a detailed investigation based on CCTV footage from Ongole to Hyderabad, the GRP officials arrested Mohd. Shakeel Ahmed, a resident of Balapur in Rangareddy district of Telangana.

Following the directions of Vijayawada Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP) Rahul Dev Singh, three teams were formed under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Railway Police (DSRP) G. Muralidhar. With the help of informers, the teams nabbed the accused at a jewellery shop in Vijayawada while he was trying to sell the stolen gold ornaments on Thursday.
