In a shocking incident at Erumapetty here on Friday morning, a youth was dragged nearly five km on a moving car’s bonnet after the driver allegedly attempted to run him over. The victim, Solomon, a native of Panayikkulam, Aluva, had come to retrieve his rental car when the dispute turned violent.

According to the police, Solomon had rented out his vehicle to one Bakkar of Tirur, Thrissur, on October 20 after he claimed it was for a wedding. When the car was not returned, Solomon filed a complaint with the Binanipuram police. Tracking the vehicle using GPS, he located it at Vellarakkad in Erumapetty and tried to block it.

But instead of stopping, Bakkar accelerated the vehicle, attempting to knock Solomon down. To save himself, Solomon jumped onto the bonnet and clung to the wiper as the car sped towards Vadakkanchery. He recorded parts of the ordeal on his mobile phone while hanging on to the moving vehicle.

Residents and autorickshaw drivers, alerted by his screams, made several attempts to stop the car. Bakkar continued to drive recklessly until locals finally managed to intercept the vehicle near the Erumapetty police station, rescuing Solomon and handing the driver over to the police.

Bakkar has been arrested. The police have begun a detailed investigation into the alleged case of attempted murder.
