A 39-year-old man died after being crushed by an elevator at a house in Selvapuram in Coimbatore. The deceased has been identified as A. Raghu of Karuppannan Layout at Cheran Nagar near Peelamedu, who worked for a company that installs and repairs elevators.
The police said that the accident occurred at the residence of P. Venkatesh at Rangappa Layout at Selvapuram on Thursday (October 30, 2025). Raghu went to the house along with his supervisor Sinthu Bharathi and colleague M. Ananth for the installation of a glass in the elevator around 2 p.m.
According to the police, Ananth stopped the elevator on the first floor by turning off its power supply. However, it descended from the first floor, trapping Raghu who was standing below. He died after being crushed by the elevator.
The Selvapuram police registered a case against Bharathi, Ananth and Venkatesh based on a complaint lodged by Raghu’s wife. Further investigation is on.
