The Coimbatore District Police on Thursday apprehended a man hailing from Kerala with ₹25.5 lakh in unaccounted cash near Velanthavalam checkpost on Tamil Nadu – Kerala border. Based on specific information, Assistant Inspector Pandiarajan from Madukkarai station and his team conducted a vehicle check at Velanthavalam checkpost. The police stopped the two-wheeler of M. Muneer, 40, of Mankada in Malappuram district in Kerala based on suspicion. They found ₹25.5 lakh concealed under the seat of the two-wheeler.
Muneer claimed that his friend Nisar, 40, of Perinthalmanna in Malappuram had handed over 200 grams of gold on Thursday morning and sold it to a person at Ukkadam in Coimbatore. He claimed that he was intercepted by the police while returning with the money.
The police handed over Muneer and the money to officials of the Income Tax Department for further legal action and investigation.
