The Nadapuram fast-track special court on Wednesday sentenced a 61-year-old man, who was convicted for sexually abusing a nine-year-old girl, to 74 years of rigorous imprisonment. The man, identified as Kuniyil Balan, was also slapped with a fine of ₹85,000 by special judge K. Noushad Ali in the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case. Special public prosecutor Manoj Aroor appeared for the prosecution. The incident leading to the arrest of the accused took place in January 2024. The assault came to light when the survivor shared details of the incident with her teacher. Inspector T. Binu was the investigating officer.
