The Chithode police on Saturday arrested a 23-year-old man for illegally possessing painkiller tablets reportedly with the intention of selling them as drugs.

During patrol, a police team found a man standing suspiciously behind a petrol bunk at Lakshmi Nagar. On questioning him, the police found him in possession of 1,000 Tapentadol tablets — a potent painkiller prescribed for post-surgical treatment, but often misused by dissolving in water and injecting.

He was identified as M. Jeevanandam of Thavittupalayam in Anthiyur. The police seized tablets worth ₹10,000 from him and took him to the police station. A case was registered, and he was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

In a release, Superintendent of Police A. Sujatha warned that strict action would be taken against those involved in criminal activities in the district.
