A 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a six-year-old boy in north-west Delhi’s Subhash Place area over a personal grudge, police said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Mohd. Samem alias Bithra, was held after the child was found injured near railway tracks during an overnight search operation.

Police said they received a PCR call around 3.18 a.m. on November 4 from the boy’s mother, who reported that her son had gone to a nearby shop at around 7.00 p.m. the previous evening and had not returned home.

An FIR was registered under Section 137(2) (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and a search operation was launched. CCTV footage from nearby shops and streets was examined and photos of the missing child were circulated in the area and neighbouring police stations.

During the search, the boy was found lying in bushes near railway lines with injuries and was taken to hospital. The accused was later apprehended from Shakurbasti and confessed to kidnapping the child over a personal grudge, police said.
