The Delhi police have arrested a 40-year-old man from Mumbai for allegedly creating fake social media profiles of a woman news anchor and posting defamatory content against her, an officer said on Tuesday.

The accused was identified as Chet Kamal Prakash, a native of Jammu and Kashmir, residing in Mumbai.

The woman filed a complaint about her fake social media profiles that contained derogatory and forged content.

“The woman also received a call threatening to disrupt her wedding due in the coming weeks,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami.

A case under Section 66C (identity theft) of the Information Technology Act was registered, and through technical surveillance, Mr. Prakash was traced to Sahar village in Mumbai, the officer said.

The accused was apprehended, and a mobile phone and a laptop were seized from his possession. The devices have been sent for forensic examination, and investigation is under way, the officer added.
