Krishnamoorthy, 50, was killed when a speeding car rammed his motorcycle on East Coast Road (ECR) near Neelankarai on Sunday.
According to the Adyar Traffic Investigation Wing (TIW), Krishnamoorthy and his friend Kanniah were taking a U-turn when the car, coming from Injambakkam at high speed, hit them. The impact threw both riders onto the road, causing severe injuries.
Krishnamoorthy died on the spot, while Kanniah was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Onlookers who witnessed the crash attacked the car and assaulted the two youths inside before the police arrived and took them into custody.
