A 55-year-old woman, a former president of the Vemandampalayam panchayat, was allegedly murdered by her son following a dispute over family property at Mugasi Anumanpalli near Vellode on Wednesday night (October 29, 2025).
The deceased was identified as Dhanabhagiyam, wife of Krishnamoorthy, a Congress functionary. According to the police, the couple had two sons, Senthilraja (36) and Santhoshraja (40). Both were married, and due to a dispute with his wife, Santhoshraja, had been living with his parents.
The family owned about six acres of agricultural land, which had led to frequent quarrels between the parents and their sons. On Wednesday night, Santhoshraja, reportedly in an inebriated condition, is said to have had an argument with his mother, during which he allegedly attacked her with an iron hammer, killing her on the spot. He fled the scene.
Based on a complaint lodged by Krishnamoorthy and Senthilraja, the Vellode police arrived at the spot, sent the body to the Government Erode Medical College and Hospital, Perundurai, for post-mortem, and registered a case. A search is on to trace and arrest Santhoshraja.
