The Vijaynagar police have arrested a man, who posed as an official attached to the office of the PMO, claimed to be the ‘adopted son’ of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and close to several State leaders, cheated a doctor from Jammu and Kashmir of ₹2.7 crore.
The accused, identified as Sujayendra alias Sujay, a resident of Vijayanagar, had reportedly told the victim that he frequently shared the stage with top political leaders and could secure approvals for setting up an Ayurvedic hospital near Devanahalli.
According to the police, Sujayendra convinced the doctor that he would help establish a ‘villa-style premium Ayurvedic hospital’ and, under various pretexts, collected a total of ₹2.7 crore.
Based on the doctor’s complaint, the Vijayanagar police registered a case and arrested the accused. During investigation, the police found that Sujayendra had already been imprisoned twice and was also involved in four cheque bounce cases.
He even developed proximity with the relative of an IAS officer and shared dais with the seers of a Mutt and senior leaders of the State government to flex his clouts among the people.
The police were further probing whether he cheated others using similar tactics and recovered documents from his house to ascertain his activities.
