Man sentenced to 10 years for attempted murder in Erode

A man has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment for attempting to murder an individual due to personal enmity at Kovilur in Anthiyur block here.

According to the prosecution, C. Murugan, and A. Thangarasu, residents of Ennamangalam, had an ongoing personal dispute. On August 2, 2020, around 4.30 a.m., Murugan poured kerosene on Thangarasu, while he was sleeping, and set him on fire. Thangarasu sustained burns to his lower back and right shoulder and was admitted to Anthiyur Government Hospital.

The Vellithiruppur police registered a case, arrested the accused, and produced him before the Bhavani Additional Sessions Court on Monday (November 10, 2025). Judge R. Hariharan convicted Murugan of attempted murder and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment with a ₹10,000 fine.
