A 60-year-old man from Moinabad, earlier arrested for murdering his wife over a trivial dispute, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Rangareddy court on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Hussain, a beggar residing near Upperpally in Rajendranagar, and a native of Kosgi mandal in Mahabubnagar district, was booked by the Moinabad police under Section 302 (Murder) of the Indian Penal Code following a complaint by Safiya Begum on February 20, 2023.
According to the complainant, she and her sister-in-law, Hussain Bee, returned to their huts around 3 p.m. after taking Safiya’s daughter for treatment at a hospital in Langar Houz when Hussain, who was drunk, approached them and demanded ₹80 from his wife to buy liquor. When she told him she had no money, he became enraged, abused her in foul language, and hit her.
Safiya Begum intervened and pushed Hussain away, but he pushed her to the ground. He then dragged his wife inside their hut, and with a mortar stone killed her.
The following day, police arrested Mohammad Hussain and remanded him to judicial custody.
During the investigation, police gathered material evidence and filed a chargesheet. The prosecution, represented by Additional Public Prosecutors Padmaja Reddy and M. Ganga Reddy, presented witnesses and evidence before the court during the trial.
Upon examining the evidence, the court convicted Mohammad Hussain and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
