After a filmi-style chase, police personnel in Sivaganga district caught a couple who were fleeing in a luxury car after stealing goats near Paramakudi.
The police said an unidentified man and a woman stole goats that were grazing at Emaneswaram area near Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district and fled in a luxury car.
Eyewitnesses in the area immediately informed the Emaneswaram police.
The police from Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts set up vehicle checkpoints to apprehend the fugitives.
When the car approached the Thevar statue area in Manamadurai in Sivaganga district, the police attempted to intercept it.
However, the occupants did not stop and drove the car recklessly. As the police continued to chase, the occupants stopped the car and started running away from the car.
The police caught them with the help of the public.
Upon investigation, they were identified as Kaleeswaran and his wife Muthumari, residents of Andaal Kottaram in Madurai. It was also revealed that they had been stealing goats using the car, which was fitted with fake number plates.
The police subsequently seized the 5 goats, along with the two fake number plates from the car.
The couple were then handed over to the Emaneswaram police. Further investigations are under way.
