A 45-year-old man working at the Nilgiris District Police Office (DPO) was arrested for sending objectionable photos and videos to a senior police officer.

The accused has been identified as Murugan, a resident of Sattur in Virudhunagar. According to the police, Murugan worked as an assistant to the superintendent at the DPO and was tasked with refunding officers for incidental expenses related to their work on cases.

Murugan, who was working in the Nilgiris for the last two years, was asked to process the requests made by a senior police officer who was investigating a case. She had produced receipts of incidental expenses incurred during her travel and had also mentioned her phone number.

It is alleged that Murugan had noted down her phone number and began harassing the officer with messages. As she had not saved his number on her phone, she had avoided responding to the messages. However, later Murugan is said to have begun sending her objectionable images and videos.

Following a complaint, the Ooty rural police registered a case and began investigations. They traced the phone number to Murugan and arrested him under Sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The police also added that they were investigating if Murugan had been harassing other women.
