Mangalore Marathon on November 9 to have full marathon

The fourth edition of Mangalore Marathon, on Sunday, will have full marathon of 42.2 k run, among the categories of runs. Over 6,000 people have registered for the runs.

Apart from 42.2K run, there will be 20 Miler (32K), 21.1 K half marathon, 10K, 5K and 2K Gammath Runs. Like the earlier editions there will be 10K and 5K students’ run.

Avid runner and Race Director Mehwish Hussain told reporters in Mangaluru on Thursday that all the runs will start from Mangala Stadium. In the full marathon, runners will reach Panambur beach and then proceed to Tannirbhavi second beach and take another loop from Tannirbhavi and Panambur beaches. Then runners will run back to Mangala Stadium later. The routes of the other runs have been well laid down to participants. These runs have been planned to ensure smooth movement across categories. The cut off time for end of the runs will be 10.30 a.m., when traffic movement will be normal.

Mr. Hussain said pacers have been provided for all categories to help participants to finish the race in the time that suits them. Medical support and hydration points will be arranged all along the route and there will be a warm up sessions before start of each run. All finishers will get medal having ‘Pili Nalike’, the local cultural identity, dance embossed on it, he said.

Joel Rebello, president of Mangalore Runners Club, the organiser of the event, said among the 6,000 who have registered for the event include runners from South Africa, Singapore, Denmark, and Nigeria. The participants include those aged between eight and 80 years.

Managing Director of Vertex, Gurudatta Shenoy; Principal of Yenepoya World School Anthony Joseph and Director of Niveus Solutions, Ajay Prabhu, also spoke.
