The Mangaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) police on Saturday arrested four persons who were allegedly attempting to sell over half a kg of MDMA worth ₹50 lakh to students and youngsters across the city.

Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy gave the names of the accused as Mohammed Shiab alias Shiab, resident of Navunda-Byndoor; Mohammed Naushad alias Naushad, Naringana-Ullal; Imran alias Imba, Kasaba Bengre-Mangaluru, and Nissar Ahmed alias Nissar, Brahmarakootlu-Bantwal.
Acting on a specific information, CCB Assistant Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Naik and team intercepted a multi-utility vehicle near Sundar Ram Shetty Convention Hall on NH 66 in Mulki police station limits and found the accused with 517.76 gm contraband. Besides seizing the narcotic substance worth about ₹50 lakh, the police also seized the MUV worth ₹10 lakh and five mobile phones from them, Mr. Reddy said.
During investigation, the accused revealed to the police that they procured the contraband from a Nigerian national in Bengaluru and brought the same to Mangaluru to sell for a profit to students and youngsters in public places.
Serious provisions
As the seized material was of commercial quantity, the police invoked serious provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and booked the accused under Sections 21 (C) and 22 (C). Mulki Police have registered a case and are investigating.

Citing the conviction and sentence of five people by the Principal District and Sessions Court, Mangaluru, on Saturday to rigorous imprisonment ranging from 12 to 14 years in a 2022 MDMA seizure case, Mr. Reddy warned all those procuring and peddling narcotic drugs to desist from such acts. The police will prevent drug abuse with an iron hand and take cases to their logical conclusion, he noted.
