The Mangaluru police have collected over ₹52 lakh fine in a special traffic enforcement drive held in the period between August and October this year.
Talking to reporters here on Friday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) K. Ravi Shankar said 4,793 cases of ‘no parking’, ‘wrong parking’, ‘double parking’, ‘footpath parking’ were registered, and ₹23.21 lakh in fine was collected.
Mr. Shankar said meeting of commercial establishments and private hospitals, who have failed to provide parking arrangements for their customers/visitors, was held. Then notices were issued asking these establishments to take necessary action.
As many as 562 cases of rash and negligent driving was booked in areas prone to accidents and fine of ₹5.62 lakh was collected. Fine of ₹24.85 lakh was collected by registering 5,865 cases for use of ‘tinted’ glasses on cars, Mr. Shankar said.
Mobiles recovered
DCP (Law and Order) H.N. Mithun said the Mangaluru City police have recovered 233 lost/stolen mobile phones, reported to the Sanchar Saathi portal of Department of Telecommunications, in the period between September 15 and October 30.
Mr. Mithun said a team of personnel of the city was dedicated for tracing and recovery of stolen/lost mobile phones.
Few of the mobile phone owners received their mobile phones from Mr. Mithun on Friday.
