Mary snaps Nandhidhaa’s unbeaten run, moves into joint lead

Mary Ann Gomes stopped the dream run of defending champion and overnight sole leader P.V. Nandhidhaa to set up an exciting final day of the National women’s chess championship at Durgapur. Srishit Pandey also did her bit, beating Shubhi Gupta, who was in the sole second position going into Friday’s 10th round.

Nandhidhaa, however, is still in the lead, which she is now sharing with Mary. They both are on 8.5 points, half-a-point more than Shubhi and Srishti.

In the last round on Saturday, Nandhidhaa will take on Srishiti, V. Varshini, one of the five players on 7.5 points, will play Mary, and Shubhi will face Arshiya Das, who also is on 7.5.

Nivedita 7.5; Srija Seshadri 7 bt Sannidhi Bhat 6; Sakshi Chitlange 6.5 drew with Rajanya Datta 6.5 ; Ganta Kheerthi 6 lost to Potluri Supreetha 7.
