Two masked men allegedly assaulted a bangles’ trader at Bhavani Nagar and fled with ₹40 lakh, his mobile and his motorcycle late on Saturday.
Police said that the robbery took place at the victim’s home, where he claimed to have kept the cash after selling a plot of land.
The complainant, Sultan, claimed that the assailants barged in, attacked him and escaped with the cash and other belongings before he could raise an alarm. He said the money was part of a recent land transaction, a claim the police are now examining.
Bhavani Nagar police said that a probe is under way to identify the masked attackers and establish whether the victim had been specifically targeted.
