An exclusive outlet to display and sell a variety of products made by women self-help group members has been established in Pudukottai.

The ‘Mathi Angadi’ has been set up by the Mahalir Thittam to provide the members of the self-help groups in the district to market their products in Pudukottai town.

The building to house the outlet has been constructed at a cost of ₹10 lakh through the District Rural Development Agency. The role of the Mahalir Thittam is to facilitate and promote SHG products with the objective of improving the livelihood of the group members, said an official.

A host of products manufactured by members of about 80 SHGs from the 13 panchayat unions in the district are on display for sale at the exclusive outlet. This includes handicrafts, household chemicals, herbal products, handloom, and textiles. The products would be sold with ‘Mathi’ stickers.

The outlet would be manned and operated by SHG members and the sale proceeds would be directly deposited into the bank account of the respective SHGs. It would enable the group members in getting bulk orders for manufacture of products from the customers. The outlet has been established based on an announcement by the State government during 2024-25, the official said.
