Mayor M. Anbazhagan on Wednesday inspected the ongoing construction work of the link road connecting Panjapur and Karumandapam undertaken by Tiruchi Corporation.

The link road from Panjapur to Karumandapam under Package I, including the stretch along the banks of Koraiyar and Uyyakondan Rivers, is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹81.72 crore. The project will cover a 2-km distance along the Koraiyar from Panjapur to Karumandapam. The two-lane road will have a width of 10 metres. An elevated road will be formed over the railway track with an overbridge. The elevated road will be 1.37 metres long. A separate road will be formed for 200 metres to connect the Rettamalai Temple. Construction of a retaining wall for 2.250 km on both sides of the road, storm water drain with footpath for 1.290 km, are among the components of the Phase I project.

Mr. Anbazhagan instructed the officials to expedite the work and ensure timely completion. The project would be completed by 2026 and opened for public use, he said.

The 9.8-km-long road will extend from the right bank of the Koraiyar near the terminus to the right bank of the Kudamurutti near the police check post on Tiruchi-Karur National Highway. The project is divided into three phases, and work on the first two phases is progressing.
