Mayor M. Anbazhagan visited the sites of ongoing underground drainage (UGD) work in Wards 39 and 43 in Tiruchi on Sunday and instructed the officials to take steps to prevent water stagnation during rain.
The projects in Wards 38, 39, 40, 42, and 43, under Zone 3, have been completed, and house service connections are being established. During the recent rainfall, rainwater entered several houses in low-lying areas through the newly laid drainage connections.
Following complaints from residents and council members, Mr. Anbazhagan, along with Corporation Commissioner L. Madhubalan, checked the work on Oil Mill Road and Kaveri Nagar in Ward 43, Min Nagar in Ward 39, and areas where the pumping stations have been installed.
The Mayor and the Commissioner instructed engineers to monitor low-lying areas daily during the rainy season and take preventive measures. They directed that additional pumping stations be established in vulnerable areas to prevent sewage water from entering houses and to ensure the smooth discharge of rainwater.
