A principal of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi-run primary school has been suspended with immediate effect as “disciplinary action” for allegedly sending indecent and obscene messages to female staff members, as per an official order issued on Monday.
This move comes three days after the principal was transferred “under pending inquiry”. The suspension has been issued under Regulation 5(2)(a) of the DMC Services (Control and Appeal) Rules. However, until the inquiry is completed, the principal will receive subsistence allowance as per norms.
The matter came to light when 25 teachers of the school, located in south-west Delhi’s Kishangarh, wrote a letter to the Deputy Director of Education in October, accusing the principal of sending indecent and obscene messages to the female staff members on a WhatsApp group. The letter mentioned the plight of the teacher, stating that the principal’s behaviour caused “mental harassment” to them.
They also alleged that he used “inappropriate language” in the school premises and “passed casteist remarks”.
Meanwhile, it was also raised in the MCD Standing Committee meeting on November 19 by councillor Jagmohan Mehalawat, who questioned why no action has been taken despite the complaint letter being filed.
Standing Committee chairperson Satya Sharma had then directed immediate transfer and pushed for full suspension, citing the need to ensure a safe working environment.
