The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in an official statement issued on Thursday ordered the immediate transfer of the principal of MCD Primary School (Co-ed) Kishan Garh, after teachers accused him of sending “obscene” messages and subjecting them to “mental and sexual harassment”.
The action came a day after councillor Jagmohan Mehlawat raised the matter during a Standing Committee meeting of the civic body, criticising the lack of action despite a complaint being submitted to the MCD nearly a month ago.
Standing Committee chairperson Satya Sharma said the case “requires strict handling” and insisted that the principal be transferred until an inquiry is completed. To maintain a safe school environment, the principal should be suspended to prevent any recurrence of such incidents, she said.
About 25 teachers have accused the principal of “mental and sexual harassment” in complaints sent separately to the MCD Education Deputy Director and the Education Committee chairperson. They also attached screenshots of WhatsApp messages allegedly sent by him.
‘Casteist slurs’
A letter – signed by 20 teachers and addressed to Education Committee chairperson Yogesh Verma – stated that the principal sent “over 100 indecent and obscene messages every day in the teachers’ group”, causing severe mental distress to women staff members.
The teachers also accused the principal of using inappropriate language and making “casteist remarks” in school.Several staff members, speaking to The Hindu on condition of anonymity, said they even attempted to file a complaint, but the police did not register it. “We were told action would be taken and he would be transferred,” a teacher said. The principal was posted at the school in 2019. A teacher said the harassment intensified after complaints were filed. “I was threatened with false charges and verbally abused,” she said.
