Hundreds of mid-day meal scheme workers coming from various districts assembled here outside the office of Director of School Education to protest over long-pending payments and enhanced salary assured by the Congress in its manifesto in 2024.
Organised by the All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), hundreds of workers took to sloganeering, as they reminded the Congress’ promise of ₹10,000 salary per month.

The women workers expressed helplessness and said they continue to receive only about ₹1,000 as wages, while their work hours and responsibilities have significantly increased. Several workers claimed that their salaries were due for eight to 10 months.
“It’s not part-time work — we often finish around 3 p.m., but since wages are not paid, we can’t even go back to farm work. The headmasters insist on following the common diet menu, but there are no payments being made to the workers,” one protester said.
