
Minister for Public Enterprises & Minority Welfare Mohammed Azharuddinp articipates in the National Education Day programme in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Minister for Minority Welfare and Public Enterprises Mohammed Azharuddin sought the cooperation of officials to implement welfare initiatives at a fast pace, saying that the State government is committed to the upliftment and comprehensive development of minorities through education, empowerment and equal opportunities.
National Education Day and Minorities Welfare Day celebrations were held at Ravindra Bharathi on Tuesday, organised by the Department of Minorities Welfare, Telangana, commemorating Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the eminent freedom fighter and the first Education Minister of Independent India, on his birth anniversary.
This being his first public appearance after assuming office, Mr. Azharuddin paid rich tributes to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
Advisor to the State government, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, highlighted Maulana Azad’s pivotal role in India’s freedom movement and his emphasis on education. He recalled how Maulana Azad understood the crucial role of education in nation-building. Citing the first revealed verse of the Quran, Iqra, meaning to read, he underscored that every faith upholds the value of knowledge.
On the occasion, the Telangana Urdu Academy felicitated 18 literary figures for their contributions to Urdu language and literature, including Journalism, Poetry, Education, Social Service, Research and Criticism, Fiction and Promotion of Urdu, presenting awards such as the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad National Awards and Lifetime Achievement Awards.
A total of 18 awards were presented, including two Maulana Abul Kalam Azad National Awards (₹2.25 lakh each), one Maqdoom Award (₹2 lakh), and 15 Lifetime Achievement Awards (₹50,000 each) for the years 2024 and 2025.
The event showcased exhibitions by various minority welfare organisations, including Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society, Telangana Minorities Finance Corporation, Centre for Educational Development of Minorities, Telangana Minorities Study Circle, and Dairatul Ma’arifil Osmania, and officials reviewed their activities and initiatives.
The programme was attended by Faheem Qureshi, President, Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society; Tariq Anwar, Chairman, Minorities Commission; Khusro Pasha Biyabani and others.
