
Tourism Minister R. Rajendran said that for this academic year, bicycles will be distributed to 25,159 Class XI students.

Tourism Minister R. Rajendran distributed free bicycles to 656 students studying in two schools in Salem city on Monday (November 24, 2025).
The bicycles were distributed at the functions held at Bharathi Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School and Gugai Girls Higher Secondary School.
Speaking at the functions, the Minister said that in the past four-and-a-half years, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had allocated more funds for the School Education Department and implemented various welfare schemes including the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme and Pudhumai Penn Thittam. Classrooms were renovated under the Perasiriyar Anbazhagan School Development Scheme and advanced labs, and smart classrooms were provided through the Ennum Ezhuthum scheme.
For this academic year, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin had inaugurated the distribution of free bicycles in a function held at Sivaganga district on November 14. Following that, the distributions began in Salem district, the Minister added.
The Minister said that in the past four academic years, 1.06 lakh bicycles were distributed to 51,058 male and 55,123 female students in the district. For this academic year, bicycles will be distributed to 25,159 students who are in Class XI, he added.
District Collector R. Brindha Devi, Deputy Mayor M. Saradha Devi, Chief Educational Officer (CEO) P. Maheswari, local body representatives, and officials from departments concerned participated in the function.
