Tamil Nadu Registration and Commercial Taxes Minister P. Moorthi said on Sunday that Madurai district administration is taking steps to issue pattas to nearly 40,000 eligible people during Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s visit here on December 7.

Speaking at a special camp organised to issue pattas for the residents of Mela Anupanadi Housing Board Colony, he said that the people had been waiting for almost two decades to get the important document (patta) for their properties.

The settlement pattas would be handed over to the people at a function by the Chief Minister. He said that those houses which were constructed before 2003 in water bodies would also get the pattas for now.

He explained that officials had written to the government over the years and nearly 40 G.Os had been issued in this regard. The wait is now over for the applicants and they can get their pattas, he said and added that all eligible people’s names would figure.

He also ruled out any politics as alleged by some parties and said that the officials have done an elaborate exercise and that the pattas would be given, Mr. Moorthi said. For the benefit of the public, more e-seva centres have been opened in the district.

The people can approach these e-seva centres and by remitting a total fee of ₹520, (sub-division fee ₹400, e-challan ₹60 and scan fee at e-seva centre ₹60) with the necessary documents, their names would be entitled for settlement patta.

Thanking Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar, RDO Sangeetha, officials from the TN Housing Board and the residents for their cooperation in getting this mega exercise successful, he said that the DMK government had kept its promise, which was long due to them.
