Minister for Forests R.S. Rajakannappan here on Friday inaugurated the district-level art festival for school students.
The competition which is conducted for school students by the School Education Department would enable the students to showcase their talents in various fields like art, music, among others apart from education.
Mr. Rajakannappan, addressing students, said, “The art festival is being conducted with an aim that students should learn 46 types of arts including drawing, music, fine arts, poetry, dance, and drama, and use them to enhance their skills. This learning of new skills might be a hidden step in their journey towards greater success.”
All students of grade I to XII from all government and government-aided schools would be allowed to take part in the competitions conducted as part of the festival.
“This year, 2212 students will be participating in these competitions, which will take place over four days,” he added.
He further informed students that those who win in the district-level competitions would be selected for the State-level art festival event.
“Students winning the State-level competition will be honoured with the titles Kalai Selvan for boys and Kalai Selvi for girls,” he noted.
The art festival, which has been conducted for four consecutive years, should be considered a platform to demonstrate the students’ skills and to take it to further levels of excellence, Mr. Rajakannappan said.
