Tourism Minister R. Rajendran inaugurated road development works worth ₹37.03 crore in Salem Corporation on Sunday (November 2, 2025).
Roads in 60 wards of the Salem Corporation were damaged due to rain and underground drainage works. The Corporation decided to re-lay the damaged roads under various schemes and the works were inaugurated by the Minister at NGGO Road in Gorimedu (Ward 6).
Addressing the reporters, the Minister said that 141 road development works worth ₹12.95 crore, covering a length of 27.13 km, under the Tamil Nadu Urban Road Infrastructure Project; 114 works worth ₹11.56 crore for 15.51 km, under the State Finance Commission grant; and 135 road development works worth ₹12.52 crore for 20.97 km, under the Special Fund Project, totalling 390 works worth ₹37.03 crore, covering a length of 63.63 km, have been launched at various wards. The officials have been instructed to complete all the works within the stipulated time, the Minister added.
Regarding the beneficiaries under the various schemes implemented, the Minister said that under the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme 94,000 children and under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme 558 women are benefited.
Under the Vidiyal Payanam (free bus travel for women), 38.58 crore trips have be facilitated via government buses. Under the Pudhumai Penn Thittam, 60,000 female students and under the Tamil Pudhalvan Scheme, 20,000 male students are benefited. Through the Naan Mudhalvan Scheme, 2.09 lakh students received skill training. In the last four years, welfare assistance worth ₹22,117 crore have been provided, the Minister added.
