Minister for Housing, Prohibition and Excise S. Muthusamy on Wednesday (November 5, 2025) inspected the proposed site for a new flyover at Lakshmi Nagar junction on the Salem–Coimbatore on National Highway 544.Â
While a flyover already exists on the Salem side, the absence of one towards the Coimbatore direction has resulted in frequent traffic congestion and accidents. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has prepared a detailed estimate of ₹45 crore for constructing a 700-metre-long, six-lane flyover at the location. The Minister directed officials to ensure temporary traffic arrangements and safety measures before starting the project.
The Minister also inspected the site earmarked for installing a statue of the Father of Dairy Development, S.K. Paramasivam, on the premises of the Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (Aavin) office at Chithode. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had earlier announced that a statue would be installed in honour of Paramasivam, who was born at Chinniyampalayam in the district, took part in the freedom struggle, and played a key role in boosting milk production, laying the foundation for the White Revolution in Tamil Nadu. The ₹50-lakh project will come up within the Aavin campus, and the Minister instructed officials to expedite preliminary works for early commencement.
Collector S. Kandasamy, Erode East MLA V.C. Chandrakumar were present.
