Minister Ponnam urges environmental nod for irrigation projects

Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar met Union Forest and Environment Secretary Tanmay Kumar in Delhi and urged for speedy environmental clearances for key irrigation projects in the State, including the Gauravelli project. Mr. Prabhakar emphasised that speedy approval of these projects would significantly boost drinking water supply and irrigation facilities for farmers in Telangana.

The meeting comes after the Supreme Court’s recent withdrawal of its ‘Vanashakti’ verdict, which had posed a hurdle for several projects. Mr. Tanmay Kumar assured that he would seek legal counsel and expedite the clearance process.

Mr. Prabhakar met Mr. Tanmay Kumar as Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav was on a foreign tour.
