District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani on Friday (November 07, 2025) apprised the Ministry of Fisheries Joint Secretary, Neetu Kumari Prasad, regarding the Detailed Project Reports on the infrastructure facilities and stressed on the need to encourage shrimp processing plants in the West Godavari district.
Recently, the Union Ministry of Fisheries had declared West Godavari District as Brackishwater Aquaculture Cluster with a promise to extend support to encourage sustainable practices and exports of shrimp in the West Godavari district. The Brackishwater aquaculture spreads in above 53,000 acres, mostly in the stretch of Narsapuram and Bhimavaram, in the West Godavari district.
Chadalavada Nagarani told The Hindu on Friday, “We are preparing Detailed Project Reports, seeking required assistant from the National Fisheries Development Board, NABARD, and the Indian Council of Agriculture Research to encourage Brackishwater aquaculture and exports.”
In Andhra Pradesh, the stretch between Krishna and Godavari rivers is thriving with Brackishwater aquaculture, primarily producing shrimp. West Godavari District Fisheries Department Assistant Director L.L.N. Raju and other officials were present during the online conference presided over by Ms. Neetu Kumari Prasad on Friday.
