A minor fire mishap occurred in the Cardiology Block of King George Hospital (KGH) in the city on Saturday (November 29). Fortunately, there was no loss of life, as the KGH authorities immediately shifted the patients who were undergoing treatment in the ward to other blocks.
The incident reportedly occurred around 9.30 a.m., when the staff noticed fumes coming from NTR Vaidya Seva Trust Office in the Cardiology Block. The KGH staff immediately switched off the power supply and contacted the Fire department. In the meantime, the staff shifted 43 patients from the Cardiology Block to Gynaecology, Family Planning and other wards.
The fire personnel rushed to the spot within five minutes and began their operations. As per the authorities, the fire came under control within short time. The firemen suspect short circuit as the reason for the incident. KGH Superintendent I. Vani monitored the incident. She has also estimated a property loss of ₹2 lakh.
Visakhapatnam South MLA Ch Vamsikrishna Srinivas has inspected the spot and enquired about the incident with the doctors. He asked the hospital authorities to ensure such incidents do not repeat again.
