Vijayananda Kashappanavar, MLA and Congress leader, has urged Adrushya Kada Siddeshwar Swami of Kaneri Mutt to refrain from commenting on other religious leaders and social activists.

“The Constitution gives us the fundamental right to speech. But it does not contain the right to criticise others endlessly using insulting language. That is what the Kaneri Mutt seer has been doing. He should realise he has no such right. As a resident of Karnataka and as a Lingayat community leader, I request the seer to keep quiet and focus on his spiritual activities. Otherwise, he will have to suffer serious consequences. The people will lose patience soon and will teach him a lesson that could include beating him up,” he told reporters in Hungund on Thursday.

Mr. Kashappanavar likened the Kaneri Mutt seer, former BJP leaders K.S. Eshwarappa and Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, to comedians in movies. “They are like comedians in a movie. They will never become heroes. They should realise this and keep quiet,” he said.

He said that Mr. Yatnal has chosen the path of creating hatred among communities using provocative speeches only to get votes and that it could not work for long.
