A fertility awareness movement – Oasis Janani Yatra – was flagged off on Monday to spread awareness about declining fertility rates.
According to Dr. Radhika Potluri, fertility specialist at Oasis Fertility, Visakhapatnam, “fertility rates in Andhra Pradesh have dropped to 1.5, well below the replacement threshold of 2.1. Infertility has become a growing yet overlooked public health concern.”
The unique outreach program features a state-of-the-art mobile fertility clinic that will travel from Visakhapatnam to Tier II and Tier III towns, promoting conversations around reproductive health. It offers free consultations with experienced fertility specialists, haemoglobin testing for women, semen analysis, and safe, hygienic sample collection zones.
The initiative began with a walkathon to raise awareness about infertility and to promote the importance of embracing advanced, science-led fertility treatments and preservation options. Students, families, and healthcare professionals participated in the event.
MLAs Ganta Srinivasa Rao (Bheemunipatnam), Vamsi Krishna Srinivas (Visakhapatnam South), Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu participated.
Through a strong collaboration with government bodies, the initiative aims to ensure that evidence-based fertility solutions reach under-served regions, where access and awareness remain limited.
Dr. Durga G. Rao, medical director and co-founder of Oasis Fertility, Dr. Radhika Potluri, fertility specialist, Pushkaraj Shenai, CEO of Oasis, spoke.
