HRD Minister Nara Lokesh on Wednesday (November 26) praised the students who took part in the mock Assembly, saying that they had transformed the venue into a “living classroom of democracy” by debating key issues such as farmers’ problems, mobile addiction and anti-drug campaign.

Speaking after witnessing the ‘Students Mock Assembly’ session conducted on the premises of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly to mark the Constitution Day celebrations, he said during his Yuvagalam padayatra, he carried a copy of the Constitution. When police tried to stop him during the march, he reminded them of Article 19 and the Right to Freedom. At that moment, he said he decided that children must be taught about Constitutional rights and duties from a young age.

Mr. Lokesh urged students to remain ethical in whatever profession they take up and to bring positive leadership into politics. He encouraged them to grow into individuals that make India and Andhra Pradesh proud globally. He said students should enter politics, bring positive leadership, uphold ethics and contribute to India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. He encouraged students to speak confidently, debate with facts and disagree respectfully, reminding them that they are the future custodians of democracy and development.

The Minister underscored the need for the citizens to understand not only their fundamental rights but also their responsibilities, collective values and moral duties. Every voice in a democracy is important, he said, adding that the students’ voices were clearly heard in the mock Assembly.

Referring to the reforms ushered in by the government in the education sector, he said introduction of One Class–One Teacher system in 9,600 schools and large-scale Parent–Teacher Meetings as part of coordinated efforts for a positive change were some of them. He said students, teachers and parents must remain connected. Affirming that the government will do its part, he said parents should also feel responsible in shaping the society.

The Minister released a child-friendly Constitution book, containing inspiring stories of national leaders and stressed the importance of discipline, values and parents’ role in shaping children. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Assembly Speaker Ayyannapatrudu, Chief Secretary Vijayanand and others were present.
