The Coimbatore Vizha that is on from November 14 to 24, attracted sportspersons from different parts of the State for its parasport and special sports meet on November 20.
This event, inaugurated by Kezevino Aram, president of Shanti Ashram, celebrates inclusivity, courage, and the indomitable human spirit, said a press release from the organisers. It was held to facilitate a platform to differently-abled school children where they can showcase their talents, and also create an occasion for para-athletes to push their limits and excel.
More than 350 special students and 150 para athletes took part. The competitions include volleyball, throw ball, running, cycling, shot put, and javelin throw for special athletes, along with para volleyball, para throw ball, wheelchair table tennis, blind chess, and field events for para-athletes representing different disability categories.
Sudhakar and Arul, para-volleyball players from Coimbatore who represented India in the International Para-volleyball event held in the US last month, declared the sports meet open.
The Natya-Isai Thiruvizha that is held as part of the Vizha in many temples in the city has classical dancers and Carnatic musicians performing every day.
