The Muslim Students Federation (MSF) State committee has suspended its Kannur district officer-bearers who took charge a day earlier, citing violation of the organisation’s constitution that bars teachers from holding posts in the student body.

According to the MSF leadership, the positions of district general secretary Ramshad K.P. and treasurer Anas Kottakattil have been frozen, as both were elected despite being employed as teachers. The State committee said the appointments were made “unconstitutionally”, prompting immediate action.

The move has deepened friction between the MSF State leadership and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) district leadership. The MSF alleged that the reorganisation was carried out with the involvement of IUML district president Abdul Kareem Cheleri. Earlier, Mr. Cheleri reportedly had differences with MSF State general secretary C.K. Najaf, and the Najaf faction had accused the league leadership of attempting to take control of the MSF district committee.

Two district committee members have now been suspended as the dispute widened. Meanwhile, the State leadership has reportedly offered a compromise formula. It is learned that those holding teaching positions may be considered for the posts if they provide a written assurance that they will take leave from their jobs to engage in organisational work.
