The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a Sub-Inspector of Police and his driver from the Mulugu police station in Siddipet Commissionerate for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹50,000.

According to officials, Sub-Inspector Ch. Vijay Kumar and his driver, police constable (Armed Reserve) Raju, demanded and accepted the bribe from a complainant as a reward for extending official favour in connection with the eviction process of a residential property belonging to the complainant’s elder sister. The officers allegedly assured assistance to the complainant in a case registered under Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 423 (fraudulent execution of a deed of transfer), 447 (criminal trespass) and 427 (mischief causing damage to property) of the Indian Penal Code.

The ACB stated that the tainted bribe amount of ₹50,000 was recovered from constable Raju. The duo has been arrested and produced before the special court for ACB cases in Hyderabad. The case is under investigation, while the identity of the complainant has been withheld for security reasons.

The ACB has urged citizens to report any demand for bribes by contacting its toll-free helpline 1064 or through social media channels, assuring that complainant details will be kept confidential.
