The 150th anniversary of India’s national song Vande Mataram was commemorated with enthusiasm at the Mysuru division of South Western Railway here on Friday.
Divisional Railway Manager Mudit Mittal, Additional Divisional Railway Manager Shammas Hameed, along with other officers and staff participated in a mass rendition of Vande Mataram, marking the beginning of a historic year of celebrations.
On the occasion, Y.M. Puttannaiah, a renowned harmonium player, was felicitated by the Divisional Railway Manager for his contribution to Indian classical music and promotion of patriotic compositions.
The commemoration was observed across all offices and stations of the Mysuru division, where officers and staff joined in the mass rendition with patriotic fervour. As part of the celebrations, Vande Mataram was played at railway stations across the division, inspiring a sense of unity and national pride among passengers and railway personnel alike.
The observance is part of a nationwide initiative announced by the Centre to celebrate 150 years of Vande Mataram, a timeless composition that continues to symbolise India’s freedom, unity, and cultural heritage, the division said in a release.
“The commemoration stood as a heartfelt tribute to the enduring spirit of Vande Mataram, a symbol of India’s unity and devotion to the motherland. The enthusiastic participation of officers and staff reflected their patriotic zeal and collective commitment to upholding the nation’s rich heritage,” said Pruthvi S. Hullatti, Divisional Finance Manager and Public Relations Officer, Mysuru division.
